This monthly forum event is for established poets and open-mic participants and features the best local talent. Due to adult subject matter, we strongly advise participants be age 17 or older.
Begins at 7:30 p.m. on the following dates:
Dec. 20 | Jan. 17 | Feb. 21 | Mar. 20 | Apr. 17 | May 15 | June 19
West Las Vegas Arts Center
947 W. Lake Mead Blvd | 702-229-ARTS (2787)
Hosted by LaBlaque Williams
The instant you first hear LaBlaque Williams roar out, “I… am a Spoken Word Artist!” you know he doesn’t just define the term, he embodies it, unleashing all at once a sheer propulsive power of subtle rhythmic force and incisive cultural and social critique, through an unparalleled personal, yet universally metaphorical, art of unique quality.
In 2008, LaBlaque was named the coveted Spoken Word Critics’ Pick by FameCast’s National online talent competition over hundreds of others. Additionally, this Houston-born, long-time Las Vegas denizen, is a renowned prose writer, music producer, actor, “artrepreneur” and CEO of LaBlaque House Enterprises, Inc. and 2nd Flo Entertainment. What's more, he is the organizer of annual poetry events like The Poetry Splash, Speaknicand co-founder of the mighty five-man Las Vegas spoken word dynamo-combo known as Griot Nation.
Given LaBlaque’s formidable visceral and aesthetic presence, it may surprise you to hear that he is a gentle and intensely “involved” Vegas leader-activist and mentor who instructs youth and adults in Music Development and Artistic Development at the West Las Vegas Arts Center. An openhearted host, he has turned his own home into a speakeasy (LaBlaque House Lounge), where both young and old gather to dance and share soul via song and word.
